Lasers & Summertime

Peak laser season is coming to a close, but is it still possible to get treatments like BBL and MOXI in the summer? Absolutely!

However, there are a couple of rules to follow in order to continue with your treatments or start your laser journey. Especially when it comes to BBL, it’s super important to be committed to protecting your skin from sun exposure!

During a BBL treatment, light and heat are used to target different skin concerns such as sunspots, veins, cherry angiomas etc.

Any tan on the skin (real or fake!) will interfere with how we’re able to treat your skin during your appointment, the end results, and will put you at larger risk of pigmentary side effects. Think of walking bare foot on a blacktop driveway vs a concrete driveway— blacktop is always going to be hotter than the concrete!

If your skin is tanned or you plan to be outdoors frequently, this just means treatments would have to be more conservative and need more sessions for optimal results. If you’re too tanned and we need to reschedule, know it’s for your safety and the health of your skin!

BBL being a mega dose of light pushed deeply into your skin, any additional sun exposure afterwards when your skin is sensitized will at minimum undo your results, put you at risk for a serious sunburn, or stimulate your melanocytes worsening your skin issues and pigmentation.

Always use protection with a broad-spectrum SPF (reapplying throughout the day), wear a hat, and seek shade especially during peak sunny hours. If you’re super active in the summer and can’t fully commit to the suggestions above, no biggie, it’s just best to just wait until fall for more intense treatments! Why risk the chance of reversing any progress made?!

I know summertime in Wisconsin is a sacred season after being cooped up from the cold most of the year, so enjoy your lake days, take a sunset cruise on the boat, and lasers can always wait.

With any skin treatments, nothing is truly permanent. BUT you can prolong results and keep your skin clear and healthy by being proactive with protecting your skin.
